Repurposed indulgence/ham & cheese.

Let's keep it simple. Here are some things I've been enjoying recently:
Empty boxes. Every repurposed indulgent delivery package emptied and shelved is bringing me joy. I have no storage options in my flat yet, save for a couple of wonky white-painted shelves, an ugly bathroom unit with narrow shelves my mama likened to a wine rack, and an obscene amount of coat hooks in the hallway (which, as a jacket hoarder, I am very grateful for) so I have to be creative with what goes where and ruthless with what is actually there.
My air fryer. I missed her while she was locked away in storage for the best part of a year, and had forgotten just how much she could do for me. All hail the basic b*tch Ninja!
High Potential. This series is packed with ham and cheese, but fills the void in my life that Always Sunny, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and CSI Vegas have left. I've got a smart Sweet Dee, an older matriarch Carla and a very dashing modern-day James Holt (if you know, you know) and a few new faces mixed in. This crime drama series follows a single mother with high IQ who begins working with the police, using her extraordinary intellect (/somewhat autistic brain) to help solve complex cases. As she balances motherhood and her unconventional new job, she develops a unique dynamic with the detective she partners with (I'm hoping and praying they don't do That Thing with the two of them, though).

My queer self. I make no secret of the fact that I identify as a demisexual-pansexual-bisexual someone (still working out the exact term but also don't believe it's necessary to label, peace and love y'all), but it's only in the past year or so that I've been able to fully explore that, as well as my excitement when it comes to openness and involving others in play. I won't go any further, as I can't be sure who is reading this, but just know, dear readers, that I'm having a great time.
Big shops... I should say though, I enjoy these but also am overwhelmed and daunted by them. It's a complicated emotional situation for me, going into a supermarket. In a past life I used to love going to Big Tesco at 7am, before I started my day of work from the kitchen table, when everything was peaceful and calm. Then in another life I'd wander up the road to Lidl for last-minute meal ideas or ingredients, to be pleasantly surprised by their offers and options - I'd always leave with something I didn't need. But then there was a short while, a whole chapter of a life that almost was, that at the time felt like the quietly exciting beginning of Act Two, where I'd visit the nicer supermarkets with another pair of hands - or rather, forearms leaning on the trolley - and other items on my list to check off. There was sometimes a question, 'what do we want for dinner?', often a happy compromise, and always a joint account to pay with. Part of me misses that, when I step through the aggressively swinging automatic gates into the Fresh section and unfold my cute little Kind bag, having someone to steer with and consider, but I'm confident it won't be long before I'm back on form shopping for just me.
Vinted. I've been putting off important flat-tidying tasks and prioritising posting my unwanted wares. I've been using this app for over a decade, and while I hate how impersonal and spenny it's become, I'm also delighted that so many folks are doing the sensible thing and shopping second hand. Also, get that money, gang.
Cash it in. I had a lovely experience in the Lush Hair Lab Brighton last week on my day off; the team has been offering me a freebie treatment since they opened, and after a year or so of 'oh yes I must do that sometime', I finally emailed them and made it happen. It was unexpectedly meditative and emotional. Read my gushy LinkedIn post here.
Book in to work from Hastings Writers Workshop! You can get a month's £20 pass that entitles you to 25 slots, which is outrageously affordable (works out as less than £1 per hour - quick maths) and a beautifully peaceful little space. Early morning & lunchtime writing slots are available also. Even if you have a working space at home, it's nice to go somewhere else and also have some other creative 'accountability bodies' nearby.
- not an ad, I just want local pals to be aware of this excellent opportunity.
Thanks for reading.
